Self Build House in South Wales

This is a contemporary house for a self-builder in South Wales that has dramatic views over the Welsh Countryside. The client brief was very clear with precise internal arrangements. The ground floor, multiple aspect open plan living space maximises the levels of natural daylight.

The large overhanging eaves shelters the balcony off the master bedroom. Natural light and maximising views was a key brief criteria which we have fulfilled with large patio doors, glass balustrade and secondary windows giving light into the depth of the main room at ground floor.

The simple but dramatic form means that the construction should be straight forward to manage as a self-build project. Using materials that will be low maintenance were an important criteria so the use of a buff brick was chosen as a material used locally in the street scene and relatively maintenance free.
