Purpose Built Flats in Bournemouth Conservation Area
This block of twelve flats in Charminster Road was designed for a property investor. The site is located in a prominent corner within a conservation area. The design details, materials and proportions of the building were given careful consideration to ensure that the mass of the building settled comfortably into its context.
Breaking up the facade with render and brickwork in the right proportions was important to create a domestic scale whilst the articulation of the elevations broke down the mass and gave form to the roof. Lintel details over the sliding sash windows, bonnet hips to the plain clay tile roof and general attention to the construction details ensure that this building will still be a positive contribution to the areas character for years to come.
