The Waterford Lodge Hotel went into administration in 2012. Following constructive discussions with the administrator and the Council and a public consultation exercise with the local community the design scheme developed to replace the existing rundown hotel with a courtyard of seven 3 and 4 bedroom houses.

The challenge was to create an attractive group of houses that maximised the southerly and easterly orientation of the site whilst integrating the houses successfully with the neighbouring block of flats. This was achieved by recognising the local vernacular and taking a traditional design lead for the courtyard area whilst ensuring a very modern and light layout for the new houses internally.
